Learn about Riopol

Facilities valued at US$ 1.08 billion in financial resources.  Such is Rio Polímeros S.A.'s Complexo Integrado, inaugurated in June, 2005.  As the first gas-chemical venture in Brazil, Riopol is situated next to the Duque de Caxias Refinery (Reduc), in the Campos Elíseos district, in the city of Duque de Caxias (RJ).  With easy access and close to the major consumer centers in Brasil, Riopol is just a few hours from the main ports, roadways, railroads and airports in the country.

Rio Polímeros S.A. ranks as the first integrated gas-chemical industrial complex and the second largest producer of polyethylene in Brazil.  Riopol's equity control consists of Quattor, with 75% of shares (of these, 60% belong to Unipar and 40% to Petrobrás) and of BNDES with the remaining 25%.

Using clean technology, Riopol manufactures resins based on ethane and propane from natural gas extracted from the Campos Basin, in the state of Rio de Janeiro.  Riopol's structure includes first and second generation petrochemistry, resulting in greater operational competitiveness.

Using ABB Lummus and Univation technologies, Riopol produces approximately 520 thousand metric tons of ethane, 75 thousand metric tons of propene and 540 thousand metric tons of polyethylene annually.
